North Austin/Cedar Park Offices
Dr. Matthew Anderson is originally from Tyler, TX. He received his undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and received his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Anderson completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
He remained there and completed training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He served on staff at UT Southwestern prior to relocating to Austin in August of 2011 to join Austin Pulmonary Consultants. Dr. Anderson enjoys all aspects of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with specific clinical interests in thoracic oncology, interstitial lung disease, and the management of sepsis. In his spare time, Dr. Anderson enjoys photography, home brewing, travel, running, and fly fishing.
Dr. Anderson is board-certified in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. He has been awarded several recognitions over his career, including the following:

Dr. Huaizhen "Jennifer" Chen was born in China but immigrated to the US with her parents at the age of 5. She considers herself a native Austinite. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas Austin and her medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern. She remained at the University of Texas Southwestern to complete her Internal Medicine residency. After spending a year as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern, she left for Atlanta, GA, where she completed her Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship.
Dr. Chen enjoys all aspects of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine with particular interests in asthma, COPD, thoracic oncology, and sepsis management. She is board certified in Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Internal Medicine.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing board/video games, watching movies, and cooking.
Dr. Menaka Mahendran grew up in Racine, Wisconsin. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry at Saint Louis University and pursued her medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine, where she met her husband, Arjun. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at The University of Kansas in Wichita and went on to complete a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at The University of Florida in Gainesville. They then moved to Cincinnati, where Menaka spent two years as an Assistant Professor at The University of Cincinnati. They are looking forward to finally settling down in Austin!
In her spare time, Dr. Menaka Mahendran enjoys working out, baking, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Menaka Mahendran enjoys treating a variety of pulmonary pathologies but has particular interests in asthma, COPD, and interstitial lung diseases. She also greatly values her time managing critically ill patients.
Dr. Menaka Mahendran is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Rajan grew up in Dallas, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center Long School of Medicine. Dr. Rajan completed his internship and residency at Columbia University and his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He has recently moved back to Austin from Denver, Colorado, to be closer to his family.
Dr. Rajan is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to his patients. He believes in a patient-centered approach, involving individuals in their healthcare decisions and tailoring treatments to their unique needs. Dr. Rajan emphasizes open communication and ensures that his patients have a thorough understanding of their conditions and available treatment options. He is committed to delivering high-quality care and improving the respiratory health and well-being of his patients.
Outside of work, Dr. Rajan enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and staying active through activities such as hiking and cycling.
Dr. Rajan currently holds a board certification in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Neurocritical Care Medicine.

Dr. Thaw Sint was born and grew up in Myanmar (formerly Burma). After completing high school in Rangoon, Dr. Sint pursued an undergraduate degree in Biology from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He then went on to obtain a medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN, where he also completed residency training in Internal Medicine. This was followed by further fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.
Dr. Thaw Sint joined Austin Pulmonary Consultants in 2007, where he has been a partner since 2009. Dr. Sint is board-certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Due to his special interest in sleep disorders, especially sleep apnea, Dr. Sint sought and obtained a board certification in Sleep Medicine in 2013.
When Dr. Thaw Sint is not working in the clinic or hospital, he enjoys exercising, gardening, reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. Dr. Sint is passionate about community, environmental, and social justice issues. He has served on the board of directors for the Austin-based Dream Come True Foundation, which aims to lift promising individuals and families out of poverty.
In recognition of his community service and caring for his patients, Dr. Thaw Sint was awarded the 2012 Frist Humanitarian Award by St. David's/HCA Partnership. Dr. Sint continues to strive for excellence in providing caring, competent, up-to-date, and individualized care to his patients.
Dr. Shenil Shah is originally from Northern New Jersey. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and received his medical degree from St. George's University. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he also completed his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He served as the Chief Fellow in his final year of fellowship.
Dr. Shah enjoys all aspects of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with a particular focus on asthma and thoracic oncology.
He moved to Texas to be closer to family and loves being an Austinite. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three little boys. He has interests in fitness, sports, and reading.

South Austin Office
William M. Bartek, MD, is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Bartek received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Dickinson College. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Bartek attended the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
In 1999, Dr. William Bartek completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern and remained there to complete a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
In 2002, Dr. Bartek joined Collin County Pulmonary Associates in Plano, TX. He was intimately involved in designing and implementing a sepsis protocol at The Medical Center of Plano, coauthoring "Assessing the Effect of the Surviving Campaign Treatment Guidelines on Clinical Outcomes in a Community Hospital," published in Annals of Pharmacotherapy.
Dr. Bartek moved to Austin in 2008 and joined Austin Pulmonary Consultants. He is currently the Intensive Care Unit Medical Director at St. David's South Austin Medical Center.
Dr. Bartek enjoys treating and diagnosing a wide variety of Pulmonary and Critical Care diseases but has a particular interest in thoracic oncology, including the use of endobronchial ultrasound and electronavigational bronchoscopy.
Dr. Rajan grew up in Dallas, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center Long School of Medicine. Dr. Rajan completed his internship and residency at Columbia University and his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Sapan Patel is originally from the San Francisco Bay area in California. He received his undergraduate degree from University of California Davis and received his medical degree from St. George's University. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he also completed his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He served as Chief Resident in his final year of residency as well as Chief Fellow in his final year of fellowship.
Dr. Sapan Patel enjoys treating and diagnosing a wide variety of pulmonary pathologies, with particular interest in COPD and interstitial lung diseases.
Dr. Sapan Patel moved to Texas to be closer to family and friends who had recently moved to Austin. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two little boys. He has a particular interest in playing golf with his children.
Dr. Sapan Patel is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Patel has been recognized throughout his career with the following accolades:

Dr. Usha Rao is originally from Houston, TX. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin and received her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, and subsequently moved to Dallas, TX, to pursue fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. After completing her fellowship training in 2017, Dr. Rao joined The Permanente Medical Group in San Jose, CA. She relocated to Austin in 2023 to join Austin Pulmonary Consultants and be closer to family and friends.
Dr. Rao enjoys caring for patients with a variety of pulmonary disorders, including asthma, COPD, and interstitial lung disease.
Dr. Rao is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine.
Nurse Practitioners
Melani Dayal is from Austin, TX, and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Melani Dayal returned to Austin and worked at South Austin Medical Center in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for five years. Melani went back to the University of Texas and received her Master of Science in Nursing in 2010, and then joined Austin Pulmonary Consultants later that year.
Melani is a board-certified Clinical Nurse Specialist (Advanced Practice Nurse).
